Intel Quietly Updates the Core 2 Duo - New T7600G & Revisions

19/12/06

Intel is seems, has chosen the quite path to continue its ongoing battle with AMD.

Intel is continuing to update its Core 2 Duo Processor family. The latest release has been done some what quietly as Intel just released an Overclockable Core2duo processor the T7600G. The 'G' is there to indicate that the Processor is overclockable or as Intel put it

"…the T7600G is a "non-roadmap" CPU that has frontside bus and core clocks unlocked and ready for overclocking attempts"

The release has been done so quietly that not all PC makers are offering the new processor. Dell is the first to offer the new Core 2 Duo T7600G in their just announced XPS M1710, gaming laptop with a Blu-Ray drive.

"Take the gloves off with the fierce and unrelenting performance of the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G processor. Putting 2.33GHz of raw power at the heart of your machine, this extreme-performance technology is not only one of the fastest mobile processors available."

As for some specs and prices: T7600G, 2.33GHz, 4MB Cache and 667MHz Bus. Cost $700.

Along with the Intel has also released a revision of the Core 2 Duo E6300 & E6400. Intel marked this revision as L2 - which probably stand for Low Power 2. AMD's new Brisbane processors, consume only 7.5 W when they are in idle mode, which is a lot better then the Core2Duo's 22W. Intel's new revision lowers the idle power consumption to 12W. Although it should be noted that it is hard to compare the numbers since AMD and Intel use different methods to measure power consumption.
New revisions are also coming for the Xeons 3040 and 3050 and yet unannounced Pentium E4000 series.
