By the end of January, Intel's Core Duo(ex.Yonah) will depart in over 1 million units world-wide
At the Consumer Electronics Show, Intel Corp boasted in the face of Advanced Micro Devices Inc.(AMD) its new dual-core chip for mobile PCs, marketed under the Centrino Duo logo.
The move by Intel comes as retaliation after AMD placed first in the competition for 64-bit x86 CPUs and dual-core x86 processors for server applications.
By the end of January, Intel's Core Duo(ex.Yonah) will depart in over 1 million units world-wide.
Mooly Eden, VP and general manager of Intel's mobile platforms group:
The Core Duo chip "is the closet thing in my life I've seen to defying the law of gravity," offering a staggering 78% performance increase while reducing power consumtion by 28%.
Though lagging, AMD will offer 64-bit processing, compared to Intel's 32-bit Pentium M platform, thus AMD has every chance to deliver greater performance on the new Microsoft Vista.
In another order of events, Intel gave up its "Intel Inside" brand in favor of "Leap Ahead" and is increasingly using the Viiv home-entertainment platform logo, which got commitments from AOL Music On Demand, DirecTV, ESPN, MTV, NBC Universal, and Turner Broadcasting.
